What Mayweather-McGregor Teaches You About Successful Blogging

Where your attention and energy goes, grows.

I reminded myself of this idea before seeing the results of the Mayweather-McGregor fight recently.

I saw this success-promoting concept after the fight too.

Watch this video as I explain how the fight teaches you a successful blogging lesson:

McGregor trained for boxing, for months.

Mayweather trained for boxing, for years.

Does it surprise you that the guy who trained for boxing, for years, outclassed the guy who trained for boxing, for months? Of course not!

Why then does it surprise you when guys like Zac Johnson and John Chow and Darren Rowse outshine most other bloggers when this trio trained for blogging and making money online for decades while most other bloggers foolishly attempt to master the skill, craft and sweet cyber science of blogging in months?

Where your attention and energy goes, grows.

If you want to become a successful blogger devote the next 2-4 years of your life to learning, studying and practicing your blogging skills for 5-7 days weekly. Whether you are a part time or full time blogger, devote at least a few hours daily to honing your craft.

Nobody cares whether you have a busy life away from blogging because at the end of the day, where you choose to put your attention and energy, grows. Meaning if you put loving, fun, serving energy toward blogging, daily, for years, you can be a Floyd Mayweather of blogging – or at least close to his class – while the striking majority of bloggers who either give poor energy to their craft or who try to master blogging in 2, 3 or 6 months fail terribly. Or at the very best, make a mild impact in the blog-o-sphere.

Give give McGregor credit. He showed courage, boldness and clarity by diving into the ring with one of the all time boxing greats after training for a few months. In the same regard though, I had a good idea that someone who devoted months of their attention and energy to boxing would be outclassed by someone who devoted years of their attention and energy to boxing.

Where your attention and energy goes, grows.

If you want to build a rocking blog so you can feel the freedom, excitement, fun and joy of doing this gig full time, circling the globe like me and my wife or just becoming a pro blogger in your hometown, devote the bulk of your attention and energy to blogging.

Learn from the best bloggers. Buy their eBooks. Study their daily habits. Put their practical tips into use, practicing your blogging, honing your skills and slowly but surely seeing sweet blogging traffic and profits flow your way over months and more likely, years.

McGregor was a warrior. But he was outdistanced by Mayweather. Years devoted to practice beats months devoted to practice. Every time.

Don’t give in to fear-based, desperate, greedy or flat out lazy drivers that goad you to seek blogging short cuts. Avoid low energy bloggers who promise stunning success in weeks and months. Blogging is a skill. Any skill takes years to develop if you want to become legitimately good in the discipline.

I was awake until 2 AM last night – a Saturday night mind you – writing my Tuesday blog post for Blogging From Paradise. I love what I do. I have fun blogging. But I still put in a tremendous amount of attention and energy to my craft. Because where my attention and energy goes, grows, and I see the sweet benefits/rewards of devoting most of my attention and energy to blogging.

The work is the reward. But the traffic and money are nice little extra’s, or bonuses, or icing on the cake.
