Junko Tabei was the first woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, having successfully scaled the peak in 1975.
Not only was she the first woman to conquer Everest, she was the first woman to ascend all Seven Summits by climbing the highest peak on every continent.

Junko Tabei conquered Everest at the age of 36.
In addition to her personal triumphs, she’s known for forming the Ladies Climbing Club – the first of its kind in Japan.

She died of complications from stomach cancer.
