Why WebDevStudios Still Loves Page Builders

What better day than Valentine’s Day for WebDevStudios (WDS) to express our love for WordPress Page Builders?

Don’t get it us wrong. We are on board with Gutenberg and look forward to its continued development. We set up Gutenberg’s Block Editor for our clients’ blog posts, but we still use and love Page Builders for website development. Here are just some of the reasons why.

“Page Builders are a great option for companies who need more flexibility in managing the layout and look of their WordPress website. As with all technology, there are a number of different ways to accomplish the same goal. At WebDevStudios, our mission is to determine the best approach to accomplish those goals for our client’s and a Page Builder is often the right tool.”

“While I think it’s great that WordPress is moving to a block editor, it’s not quite ready to be a Page Builder. By their [WordPress] own admission, that functionality won’t be ready until Phase III of Gutenberg. Until then, WDS will continue to use its own Page Builder (baked into wd_s, based on ACF’s Flexible Content functionality) for building static pages for our clients.”

“Page Builders allow you to design and build outside the box, with most of the tools you will need inside the box.”

“With Page Builders, you do not have to be a developer in order to create a good looking and functional site!”

“It’s easier to train a new user on how to use a Page Builder to manage their website content than it is to train them on how to use all the various tools and dashboard of WordPress. It provides users a single interface to interact and modify their content in a visual way that empowers them to see the changes before they make them to the live page.”

However, as is the case in any relationship, Page Builders are not perfect—as one of our engineers points out:

“I like the idea of Page Builders for what they can give someone to build a site. For a regular user, or even a dev, I think Page Builders are nice. For someone working with a very customizable theme, they’re troublesome.”
