,There’s no better time to take a critical look at your business’s operations than at the beginning of a new year. A great place to start is with your website, as improving your search engine optimization, or SEO, will lead to more traffic to your site, and ultimately, more sales. Guest contributor Manpreet Klalra, founder of Art of Citizenry, a digital marketing strategy company, offered some best practices in the Jan. 2019 issue of Gifts and Decorative Accessories.
The first order of business? Focus on keyword metrics that matter. “One common mistake I see many businesses make is trying to rank for broad keywords with a high search volume,” Kalra wrote. “Instead, you should focus on highly targeted keywords that are more likely to result in conversions (sales).”
As an example, Kalra explained that using broad keywords such as “wooden desk” aren’t as likely to reach your intended audience as specific, targeted keywords such as “midcentury modern desk.”
